A Few of my Favorite Things...

About Niamh
Niamh is a British author of fantasy, historical, supernatural, and LGBTQIA+ novels. Her debut - Fate of the Five, released in February 2025, and was featured as Fox and Wit’s March 2025 box. She is also publishing under the ‘Bewitched Blooms’ anthology with Briar Boleyn and others on March 25th 2025. In 2022, honoured (and shook) to be shortlisted as a finalist in the Penguin Random House Merky Books Prize.
That's the official version. Unofficially, Niamh is a fictional simp and hypefixator who writes her maladaptive daydreams down. If they're that detailed, she may as well flesh them out, right?
What It's Like Working with Me
I work as a developmental editor, and it's truly my favourite part of sorry crafting. I always aim to take on projects where I feel interested and excited about the story being told, since so much of the developmental feedback is going to be centred around the characters themselves, their journey, and the meaning behind the book!
If you work with me, it's highly likely I'll be getting deeply invested in the world and characters you created, making those things my new personality, and sharing all my ideas with you in depth.
I love getting into the nitty gritty of all the parts of characters lives, movements, backstories, and the world they live in. My goal is to make sure they every hole is filled, every narrative thread is tied up, your characters feel like distinct, unique, fully fleshed out people, and so do the connections they make. I love asking the small questions, not just the big ones, because they're equally just as important, and contribute to a narrative feeling cohesive, and real.
As a very visual writer and reader, expect me to be asking for your references and Pinterest boards too!
I'm open to working in any genre, but these are my preferred ones -
My top five are:
1. Fantasy - this can range from sword and sorcery, mythological, magical, supernatural, epic, urban, dark, or cosy.
2. Romance (including as a main plot, or subplot).
3. LGBTQIA+ fiction.
4. Mystery. Crime, thrillers, or mystery as a subplot is all great!
5. Historical fiction.
But I also love to work in -
6. Dark academia
7. Westerns
8. Horror
9. Sci -fi/space opera
10. Dystopian
11. Action and adventure
12. Poetry
13. Sports fiction
14. Humour fiction
15. Gothic fiction
What I might not be the best fit for (in the interests of transparency and you finding the best editor!)
- Lit fiction (simply because I have little experience with this!)
- Middle Grade/lower YA fiction
