A Few of my Favorite Things...
About Katie
I grew up in a small town in Kansas known for two things - being the most haunted town in Kansas and the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. I didn't think either of these things were particularly interesting until I was older and realized they both helped shape my interests in writing and reading. Unsolved mystery and paranormal abound.
My love of stories has stayed with me all throughout my life. It was the escape I needed and the outlet that fed my creativity. I would daydream in class and create scenes that often became structures to bigger stories. I loved getting up before the sun rose to take long walks in the dark with my dog while creating stories in my head, then rush home to write it all down before I forgot it. I've written countless works with no real intention of publishing, but rather satisfying the need to create. My head was always stuck in a book and I preferred reading to socializing.
What It's Like Working with Me
I love to write, I love to read, and I love when I can combine the two. So I did and started offering my services to help other authors. Here is what I offer through HenDragon Press.

My ideal client is someone who can view their book from a constructive standpoint and want to partner on ways to help it become the best it can be. Authors don't reach out for help because they think their book is perfect. They reach out because they want help reaching their story's greatest potential. I help them do that.
I have a way of seeing pieces of stories that are out of order or don't quite fit and putting them where they need to be. I fully immerse myself into the story I read. I walk along beside the characters and take notes on what they see and hear and make sure the reader can too. I love a powerful scene with raw emotion and want the reader to experience it so thoroughly they feel what the character does. I make sure your characters are authentic and consistent with who they are while helping them go through their character arcs.
When you work with me, you will receive in-line comments that I type as I read, as well as a detailed report that offers critiques and suggestions on how to polish the story. It is my intention to give feedback that will nourish the story you wrote, the way you wrote it, and not try to fit it into a mold.
I am open to all works of fiction, but I do specialize in fantasy, dystopian, paranormal, and sci-fi.
I will also accept some non-fiction work depending on the subject.
I do prefer to talk through any triggering topics prior to accepting work as sometimes it might not be a good fit.
